Electrocardiograms in Traumatic Shock in Man.

چکیده
As traumatic shock develops, cardiac output falls. There are several fairly well-established explanations for this. It is usually stated, however, that this diminishing output is due to phenomena arising outside of the heart and that the heart itself remains unimpaired until very late. We had hoped to obtain evidence that would, insofar as could be judged by electrocardiograms, give information clearly for or against this view. It was thought likely that as a result of the inadequate circulating blood volume, the lowered blood pressure, and the compensatory tachycardia, the coronary circulation might suffer to an extent recognizable by electrocardiogram. We are recording herewith observations on a series of 58 electrocardiograms obtained on 30 seriously-wounded soldiers in traumatic shock. The tracings were assembled at the 94th Evacuation Hospital in February and March of 1944, during the operations on the Cassino Front, and

Hyperglycemia and antibody titres against heat shock protein 27 in traumatic brain injury patients on parenteral nutrition
Objective(s):Hyperglycemia worsens the neuronal death induced by cerebral ischemia. Previous studies demonstrated that diabetic hyperglycemia suppressed the expression of heat shock protein 70 and 60 (HSP70 and 60) in the liver. IgG antibody titres against heat shock protein 27 (anti HSP27) were measured to determine whether hyperglycemia exacerbates ischemic brain damage by suppressing the exp...
متن کاملAqueous extract of saffron administration along with amygdala deep brain stimulation promoted alleviation of symptoms in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in rats
Objective: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as one of the most devastating kinds of anxiety disorders, is the consequence of a traumatic event. Crocus sativus L., commonly known as saffron have been traditionally used for treatment of stress and anxiety. In this study, we evaluated the effects of peripheral administration of saffron, along with deep brain stimulation (DBS) in a post-trauma...

THE BACTERIAL FACTOR IN TRAUMATIC SHOCK. By Jacob Fine. Springfield, Ill., Charles C Thomas, 1954. 82 pp. $2.75. This short monograph presents the point of view of a group of investigators at Harvard who have been conducting animal experiments on the problem of shock during the past decade. The initial chapters review and reject various theories which have been offered to explain the phenomenon...
متن کاملDeep brain stimulation in a rat model of post-traumatic stress disorder modifies forebrain neuronal activity and serum corticosterone
Objective(s): Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), one of the most devastating kinds of anxiety disorders, is the consequence of a traumatic event followed by intense fear. In rats with contextual fear conditioning (CFC), a model of PTSD caused by CFC (electrical foot shock chamber), deep brain stimulation (DBS) alleviates CFC abnormalities.Materials and Methods: Forty Male Wistar rats (220–2...
متن کاملA STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF SURGICAL SHOCK ON INSECTS' By WILLIAM ROBINSON ^ Division of Entomology, Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Minnesota SURGICAL SHOCK IN MAN AND HIGHER ANIMALS
There is a form of shock in man that sometimes foUows immediately after a wound is received. This form, called primary shock by Cowell,^ resembles fainting and is caused by nervousness. It is not the direct result of the injury itself and usually lasts but a short time. Surgical or traumatic shock is more deep seated and results from injury to the tissues. The injured individual grows pale, his...
